California Avian Data Center

Protocols, data structures, field data forms, and resources for data management, synthesis, and visualization

Introduction

Welcome to the California Avian Data Center!

CADC is a regional access node to the Avian Knowledge Network (AKN), an international organization of government and non-government institutions focused on understanding the patterns and dynamics of bird populations across the Western Hemisphere.

Use the navigation bar at left to choose a data type and find field protocols, data forms, metadata, links to online data entry and query tools and other resources for people collecting or querying avian monitoring data.

About CADC:

CADC is the first regional node of the AKN, designed as a working demonstration of AKN technology employed at a regional scale. CADC specifically targets California constituents, especially to assist resource managers in County, State, Federal, and Non-Governmental agencies in prioritizing conservation actions. CADC serves as a model for other regional nodes to be developed in the next few years, and we strive to employ open-source, modular, and exportable technologies to the greatest extent possible. This process is intended to greatly reduce the costs associated with future AKN node-development, since data models and interfaces can be readily copied. Prototype applications currently in development are already being utilized by California Fish and Game (Landowner Incentive Program) managers.

We are actively adding resources for all types of birds, and enhancing the tools that are already available. Please contact us (prbo 'at' prbo 'dot' org) if you would like to participate.

New Projects:

Gulf of the Farallones Seabird and marine mammal distribution and numbers

Shorebird migration maps

Predicted songird occurrence and density in California's Central Valley

Map-based query of all PRBO point-count data (under construction)
