Ecology of California Gulls at Mono Lake

Project Start Date: 1983

Objectives:
To determine the effect of changing lake levels on the ecology and reproductive success of California Gulls (Larus californicus) at Mono Lake in response to water diversions of the lake's tributary streams by the
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Focal Species:
California Gull

Habitat Type:
Nesting islands and open waters of hypersaline Mono Lake

Partners:
California State Tufa Reserve, Cornell University, Hubbs Sea-World Research Institute, Mono Lake Committee, US Forest Service (Inyo Natl. Forest), Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Lab (UC Santa Barbara), and numerous volunteers
