Point Reyes Snowy Plover Recovery Project, Marin Co., CA

Snowy Plover nest exclosure at Point Reyes.

Project Start Date: 1996

Background:
After observing an alarming population decline in 1995, relative to the breeding population we recorded in the 70's and 80s, PRBO recommended the use of nest exclosures to protect Snowy Plover eggs in Point Reyes National Seashore from ravens and other predators. Since the use of nest exclosures, PRBO has documented increased hatching success of Snowy Plovers.

Objectives:
To protect and monitor nesting Snowy Plovers within the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Habitat Type:
Upper beaches and foredune areas

Partners:
Point Reyes National Seashore
National Park Service

Point Reyes National Seashore Association
U. S. Fish and Wildlife Services Endangered Species Office
