If you've never heard of a Bird-A-Thon before, think of it as a
spell-a-thon where you count birds instead of words!

As a counter, you choose any 24-hour period from September 1 through October 15, 2010 to go birding, and identify as many bird species as you can.

To raise funds for PRBO’s award-winning conservation science and education programs, you ask friends, relatives and businesses to pledge a certain amount per species, or to make a flat donation to your Bird-A-Thon.

Our goal this year is to raise $120,000. Can we count on you to help?

Bird-a-Thon donations help PRBO reduce the negative impacts of environmental and land use change on birds and the ecosystems they depend upon.

It may seem a quirky way to raise funds, but during the past 32 years Bird-A-Thon has raised over $2.2 million to protect birds and their habitats.

Please join us as a Bird-A-Thon counter this year!

Expectations

  • Each counter must raise or pledge a minimum of $25.

  • Please follow the Birder’s Code of Ethics during your Bird-A-Thon, including not playing the calls of any threatened or endangered species.
