PRBO’s 43rd Annual Membership Meeting was held on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at our San Francisco Bay Research Center and Headquarters.

Board Business

President and C.E.O. Ellie Cohen welcomed guests and recognized members. Attendees (and those voting by proxy) elected three new Board members: Edith Eddy, Jim Quinn, Ph.D., and Langdon Stevenson. We thank departing Board members Ewan Macdonald, Jack Ladd and Rig Currie for their many years of leadership on the Board.

Greening the Meeting

Many thanks to "Green Mary" Munat, who donated her services to green the meeting, we achieved nearly zero waste for this event. It was an amazing "ah-ha" moment for members when Mary held up one small bag of trash that will go to the landfill. Thanks to the china cups and real wine glasses that Mary brought, and the rigorous composting and recycling that she helped us accomplish--that small bag was the sum total of trash that from the whole day's events! Thank you, Mary!

The Day's Activities

Members enjoyed bird walks on Schollenberger Marsh and a glimpse into PRBO's science at "Tools of the Trade." Jerome's provided a tasty barbecue lunch accompanied with live music by The Farallons. Guest speaker Mendel Stewart, Manager of the SF Bay Wildlife Refuge Complex (including the Farallon Islands and other sites where PRBO conducts research) described the hard decisions facing conservers in coming years.
