The 2006 Intern Symposium was held on October 17th at PRBO’s new San Francisco Bay Research Center in Petaluma, CA.  It was wonderful to see friends, staff and scientists come together to learn more about conservation science, PRBO’s work, and the experiences of our interns who help to make it happen!

This year’s keynote presentation by Dr. John Takekawa was especially interesting.  His work on Avian Influenza provides new insights into the value of PRBO’s partnerships with key decision makers such as the USGS as we face major ecological challenges!

Our internship program plays a vital role in PRBO’s conservation successes.  In particular, field interns add to our long term data sets that are the foundation of our innovative wildlife and habitat management guidelines and tools.  More importantly, the training and experience provided through our internships is helping to prepare the next generation of conservation scientists.

Over the past 25 years, more than 1000 interns have been trained at PRBO.  Their enthusiasm and dedication is paralleled only by the unique, hands-on field ecology experience they gain with us!  We are so grateful to the individual and foundation sponsors who make our invaluable internship program possible.

PRBO would like to give special thanks to Barbara’s Bakery, Third Street AleWorks, Ravenswood Vineyard and Simi Winery for their in-kind donations to the 2006 Intern Symposium.

PRBO Conservation Science wishes to give recognition to the valued contribution of The Bernard Osher Foundation for their generous support of our Conservation Biology Intern Training Program with special presentations by "Osher" interns and a guest speaker.

Join us for this annual event and listen to the first hand accounts by field biologist, enjoy hors d'ourves, and visit with PRBO staff and friends.
