The Informatics Division is focused on providing stewardship for the wealth of scientific data compiled by PRBO and our partners, with the goal of converting this data into ecosystem knowledge to support PRBO's overall mission. We develop and apply tools for data management, analysis, synthesis, and visualization, and make most of our products and data available via the internet. The Informatics Division is also the home of programs focusing on climate change and Antarctica. Please see PRBO Observer 146 for an introduction to the division.
Several programs and projects are associated with the Informatics Division, including:
The California Avian Data Center - a regional access node to the Avian Knowledge Network - an international organization of government and non-government institutions focused on understanding the patterns and dynamics of bird populations across the Western Hemisphere. A key access point to PRBO and partner datasets and visualization tools.
Quantitative and Landscape Ecology - PRBO's Quantitative Ecology Program works across divisions (terrestrial, marine, wetland) in collaboration with many different programs and projects. Our role is to enhance data analysis capabilities, explore new quantitative methods, and improve our interpretation of the spatial and temporal dimensions of PRBO data. We accomplish this through an advisory role, consulting with project leaders about statistical and GIS issues, and also by developing new research directions and projects.
