In a time of rapid environmental change and land-based development, ecologically appropriate management techniques are more important than ever.  Scientists in PRBO’s Terrestrial Ecology Division conduct research and monitoring programs to protect land birds and their habitats throughout the Western United States.  Our scientific findings are used to evaluate and guide land management and restoration efforts.

Additionally, our work in land-based ecosystems provides exposure and experience for the next generation of scientists.  We maintain a robust intern program throughout the Western US and also host school and public groups for educational fieldtrips to our field research sites.

Effective conservation action is best accomplished through cooperative efforts.  Therefore fostering, strengthening and maintaining cooperative partnerships is an ongoing and important aspect of PRBO’s work in terrestrial conservation.
