Inland-Breeding Seabirds in California

Forster's Tern nesting on Tule Lake

Project Start Date: 1997

Objectives:
To determine colony size, distribution, and coarse habitat requirements of seven species of seabirds that breed in the interior of California.

Focal Species:
American White Pelican, Double-crested Cormorant, Ring-billed Gull, California Gull, Caspian Tern, Forster's Tern, and Black Tern

Habitat Type:
A wide range of wetland habitats and nesting substrates

Partners:
Bureau of Land Management, California Dept. of Fish and Game, Calif. Rice Industry Assoc.,  Klamath Basin NWR Complex, San Francisco State Univ., USGS Biological Resource Division, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, US Forest Service, and numerous volunteers.
