Marsh Wren, PRBO photo

Tidal marsh is a unique type of wetland habitat found around bodies of salt water that supports a unique community of plants and animals, filters toxins in the water, acts as a sponge-like buffer for flooding, and sequesters carbon from the atmosphere.

Unfortunately this habitat faces many challenges.

About 95% has been lost to development around the SF Bay and the remaining amount faces threat from development and submersion from climate-change induced sea level rise.

Since the mid-1990's PRBO has been and continues to work to protect and restore this valuable habitat around the Bay.  Click here to view news coverage of a recent PRBO study.
